Don’t Lose Sight of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the most common cause of blindness in those aged 50 and above in the developed countries. With a rapidly ageing population, AMD is likely to become a major public health problem in Singapore as well. Smoking is a proven risk factor for AMD. Eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables can potentially reduce the risk of AMD. The talk will discuss symptoms, modifiable risk factors, and the importance of regular eye screening for early diagnosis and treatment of AMD, a potentially blinding eye condition in the elderly.

This talk is organised as a part of the activities of the AMD Awareness Week, a nation-wide collaborative initiative by Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, Alexandra Health to raise the awareness of AMD in Singapore.
