Meet author Yong Shu Hoong
The story "The Handover" by Yong Shu Hoong revolves around food. Food alleged killed but also healed people. The main character was a journalist but quit her job to look after her mother who was dying. Her mother was known to be the best cook in the neighbourhood while she could only cook instant noodles, fried rice and omelette. When her mother became too sick to get out of bed, she had to either scour Singapore to find her mother’s favourite hawker food or prepare home-cooked food for her. Once, the soup that she prepared was criticised by her mother, who then thought of a plan to teach her to cook. She was to ‘interview’ her mother on the recipes and write them down in her notepad. In the end, she managed to prepare their last reunion dinner with her mother’s recipes.
Meet the author Shu Hoong at the discussion. This session is organised in-conjunction with READ! Singapore 2012. A copy of the story can be downloaded at: http://www.qlrs.com/story.asp?id=560
